R.D. Sheckler Dies

Russell D. Sheckler, 56, Fairfield Route 1, owner and operator of Sheckler's Gun Shop, died Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. at the Jefferson County Hospital. He had been in serious condition for the last week and a half.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wayne L. Bartruff officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery at New London. Members of the family will receive friends at the Weston Behner Funeral Home Friday from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Sheckler was born Dec. 6, 1917 in Lee County, the son of Ralph and Susie Donnolly Sheckler. He was married to Geneva Boyd Jan. 15, 1939.

Sheckler had been a resident of this community for 27 years. After several years in the dairy business, he opened his gun shop in 1965. It is now one of the largest in the Midwest.

Sheckler is survived by his widow; one son, Richard, Fairfield; and two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Ann Taber, Memphis, Tenn.; and Mrs. Linda Faye Paul, Minneapolis, Minn. Also surviving are four grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Ralph Sheckler, Mount Pleasant; a borther(sp), Floyd of Winfield and two sisters, Mrs. Orville Pounds, Winfield; and Mrs. Roger Galer, Mount Pleasant. His father is deceased.
