DEATH TAKES WM. MASON

William Mason, 77, well known hotel operator here for many years died at Memorial hospital about 1:30 Thursday morning.

Mr. Mason was born at Oskaloosa and had been a resident of Mt. Pleasant for 55 years. He was in the hotel business here for 37 years, first operating the Mt. Pleasant hotel on the south side of the square, then the Brazelton and later the Harlan. He retired in 1941.

He was a prominent member of the Republican party and took an active interest in local, state and national politics. Mr. Mason is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Marie Wilson, with whom he resided, and Mrs. Ruth Horne of Fort Smith, Ark., also by a sister-in-law, Mrs. J. E. Nicholas of Des Moines.

The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the St. Michael's Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Fred McNeil officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home cemetery. The body will be taken from the Crane Funeral Home to the Mason residence this evening.
