Dr. Robert W. Lofgren, 94, retired longtime dentist of Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Arbor Court in Mt. Pleasant.Friends may call from 12 Noon to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2013 at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mt. Pleasant. The family will be present to receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. that evening. A public Masonic service will take place at 7 p.m. Friday, February 22, conducted by Mt. Pleasant Lodge #8 AF & AM.Cremation will follow the visitation. A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. The Reverend Herbert G. Shafer, Senior Pastor, First United Methodist Church, will officiate with military rites conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard.Those considering an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the First United Methodist Church or the University of Iowa Dental School Alumni Association. Online condolences may be sent to www.kimzeyfuneralhome.com.Robert Warren Lofgren was born, October 9, 1918 in Mediapolis, IA, the son of Gustav Emil and Edna (Blackford) Lofgren. He graduated from Mediapolis High School and the University of Iowa with his B.S. degree, and then graduated from the Dental College in 1942 with his D.D.S. degree. Robert met Marian Haack at the University of Iowa. After their graduations, he entered the U.S. Army in January 1943. He rose to the rank of a Major in the Dental Corps. Robert and Marian married May 27, 1945 in Webster City, Iowa, then spent the remaining years of WW II at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs, CODr. Lofgren purchased the Dr. Edwards' Dental Practice in Mt. Pleasant, where he practiced for 42 years, retiring in 1988. He joined Rotary International in 1946 and received the Paul Harris Fellow Award after 50 years of membership, and a 50- year member of Mt. Pleasant Lodge #8 AF & AM. Robert served in several volunteer capacities as a member of First United Methodist Church.Dr. Lofgren served as a President of the Southeast Iowa District Dental Society and was a lifetime member of the American Dental Association and the Psi Omega Dental Fraternity.Those thankful for sharing in Dr. Lofgren's life include a daughter and her husband, Barbara and Bill Duro of West Des Moines, IA; a son and his wife, Robert W. "Bob" Lofgren, Jr. and Deborah Nance of the country of Ecuador; a granddaughter and her husband, Jacqueline and Stephen Kennard of Amelia Island, FL, two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Nathaniel Kennard; a step granddaughter and her husband, Julie and Seth Wright of West Des Moines and their daughter Chloe Wright and many nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marian, who died February of 2009, 2 brothers - Dr. Ronald Lofgren DDS who practiced in Mediapolis and Dr. Richard Lofgren, DDS who practiced in Bloomfield and an infant brother, Donald Lofgren.
