Louisa W. McGreer.

Louisa Wilcoxson was born in Indiana September 7, 1820, and died at the home of her son William L. McGreer in Harrisburg township, Van Buren county, Iowa, March 9, 1909, at the age of seventy-nine years, six months and two days.

She came with her parents to what is now Iowa when she was eight years old. The family first settled at West Point where her girlhood was spent.

She was married March 15, 1854 to George L. McGreer. To this union were born three sons; John B., now living at Big Springs, Nebraska; Chester, died in infancy; and William L. of Harrisburg township.

Soon after her marriage she came with her husband to Van Buren county where her later life was spent with the exception of a few years when they lived in Hillsboro.

About 1860 she accepted Christ as her personal Saviour and united with the Baptist church at the White schoolhouse, near Bratton’s Grove. Later her membership was transferred to the Harrisburg Baptist church of which organization she was always a faithful and conscientious member, although for a number of years she had been deprived of church privileges owing to physical infirmities.

Since last July she has failed rapidly and for the past eight weeks has been confined to her bed. During all that time she has been tenderly cared for in her home by her son; all that medical skill and loving hands could do to make her last months on earth peaceful ones was done.

Besides the two sons, two brothers and two sisters, with other relatives survive to mourn their loss.

A loving mother, a kind and generous neighbor, a faithful friend, has heard the Master’s “Well done, thou good and faithful servant; enter thou into the joy of they Lord,” and has gone to her reward.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Hillsboro, Iowa, Thursday, March 11, conducted by Rev. Jonathan Lee of South Ottumwa, a former pastor and an old friend of the family.

She was laid to rest in the Hillsboro cemetery at the side of her husband who had preceded her to the Heavenly land.
