Orval Eugene Timmerman

Orval Eugene Timmerman, 57, of Richardson, Texas, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, in his home.

The funeral was held Oct. 4 at Canyon Creek Presbyterian Church in Richardson. Burial was in VFW National Cemetery in Richardson.

Mr. Timmerman was born Sept. 30, 1942, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Orval Fredick and Ellen Ropel Timmerman. He married Marcia Barber Nov. 9, 1977.

Mr. Timmerman was raised in Fairfield. Beginning early in their lives, he and his three brothers worked on the family's 165-acre corn and soybean farm.

He played sports, including football, while attending Fairfield High School. He earned a full football scholarship, and after he graduated from FHS in 1960, he played football at Parsons College.

After graduation, he was drafted into the Army in 1968 and served a tour of duty in the northern hills of South Vietnam. He was patrol leader and staff sergeant with the 101st Airborne, known as the Screaming Eagles. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

After Vietnam, he served as a member of the United States Army's precision exhibition parachute team, the Golden Knights. He traveled the world and executed 1,246 jumps.

In 1972, Mr. Timmerman left the Army and moved to Dallas, where he met his wife. They had two children. He worked on the Live Oak and Red Oak Tree Farm in Celina, Texas. He became the national accounts sales manager for Rich Products Corporation.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Brent Timmerman; one daughter, Brittany Timmerman; and one brother, Don Timmerman.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Chuck and Les Timmerman.
