Dr. Hiram Wiggins

Dr. Hiram Wiggins was born at Wayland, Iowa April 5, 1856 and spent his boyhood and early manhood near Wayland. In choosing his life work he followed his father in the profession of medicine and was graduated from the Homeopathy School of Medicine at Iowa City in 1891 and practiced medicine at Hillsboro, Iowa until his removal to Oklahoma in 1905. He located on a claim six miles from Hooker and after making final proof on his homestead with his family removed to Tyrone and while not giving up entirely the practice of medicine he became proprietor of the Commercial Hotel. He never failed to extend a helping hand to those in need of medical and financial aid. Dr. Wiggins was a member of the Missionary Baptist church at Wayland, Iowa.

He was married October 9, 189-_ to Miss Mary E. Robinson of Hillsboro, Iowa and to this union two children were born, W. E. Wiggins of Larned, Kansas, and Mrs. Paul McHargue of Liberal, Kansas, at whose home he died May 4, 1926. Besides a wife and two children he leaves three grandchildren, an aunt, Mrs. Martha Cowherd of Anchorage, Ky., and one brother, Harvey W. Wiggins of Wayland, Iowa and scores of friends to mourn his death.

The funeral was held from the Baptist church at Tyrone, May 6, 1926. The Rev. H. D. Johnson conducting the funeral services. A large crowd was in attendance to show their last respects to this honored citizen.
