"SAMUEL CONRAD, WAYLAND, IS DEAD.

WAYLAND, Nov. 3 - - Samuel Conrad, 81, a retired farmer died suddenly last evening about eight o'clock following a heart attack at his home three and a quarter miles northeast of Wayland.

He had been in his usual good health and had helped his son, William, husk corn all day yesterday. A family dinner was held Sunday honoring him on his 81st birthday.

Funeral arrangements which are in charge of the Stacy funeral home are indefinite, but services will probably be held sometime Wednesday awaiting word from relatives in Indiana. Burial will be in the family lot in the Sommer cemetery.

Samuel Conrad, a son of Christian and Barbara Earnest Conrad, was born on the Conrad homestead four miles northeast of Wayland, and he had spent his entire life in the community. He was a prominent farmer and stock raiser and also followed the carpenter trade. He retired from farming eleven years ago when Mr. and Mrs. Conrad moved to their present home and their son, William, took charge of the home farm.

Mr. and Mrs. Conrad returned last week form Fort Wayne, Ind., where they had attended the funeral services for their son-in-law, Brooks McCague.

Surviving are his wife, the former Katie Schantz, a son, William of Wayland; three daughters, Mrs. Paul Liechty near Winfield, Mrs. John Roth of Mt. Pleasant and Mrs. Brooks McCague of Fort Wayne, Ind., a brother, Isaac Conrad of Wayland; three sisters, Mrs. Judith Witwer of Fort Wayne, Ind., Mrs. Lydia Schindler of Earlville, Ill., and Mrs. Mary Torrance of Washington. Two sisters, Sara and Anna Conrad, died many years ago and a brother, Joe, died in Oregon 17 years ago this month."
