'Cordie' Johnson

SALEM - The service for Cordelia "Cordie" Johnson, 94, formerly of Salem and Hillsboro, who died at 12:45 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 1993, at Nelson Nursing home in Fairfield, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Hillsboro Baptist Church with the Rev. David Doerr officiating. Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery. Visitation is open at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with the family present from 7 to 8 tonight. Memorials to Hillsboro Baptist Church may be left at the funeral home.

Mrs. Johnson was born Jan. 6, 1899, at Mendon, Mo., the daughter of Pole and Mary Brewer Fry. She married Rex S. Johnson on Dec. 19, 1919, in Ottumwa. They farmed in the Hillsboro-Salem area. She was a member of Salem Congregational Church, Hillsboro American Legion Auxiliary and a former long-time member of Hillsboro Baptist Church.

Surviving are three sons, Arnold and Kenneth, both of Stockport, Howard of Hillsboro; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruby Billups of Streator, Ill.; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Max; two brothers, George and Arthur Fry, a sister, Hazel Cain, and a grandson.
