William G. Ebert

William G. Ebert, 96, former Fairfield resident, died Saturday morning, Jan. 9, 1993, at his home in Springfield, Ill.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield with the Rev. Kennety Royar officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery at Mount Pleasant. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to First United Methodist Church.

Ebert was born Sept. 11, 1896, in Lakota, the son of Leonhard G. and Anna Marie Miller Ebert. He grew up in Lakota and graduated from Lakota High School. He served in World War I in the Motor Transport Corps. He married Berenice A. Blake on March 5, 1924, at Mediapolis. She died March 30, 1982. In 1985, he married Geraldine A. Jones of St. Joseph, Mo. She died in 1990. He worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 47 years, retiring in 1966. He was office engineer. For 34 years he lived in Mount Pleasant, where he served as a member of the board of education for 12 years and was treasurer of the First United Metodist Church for 25 years. He moved to Fairfield in 1958 and in 1983 moved to St. Joseph, where he was a member of the Senior Citizens Center. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fairfield and had been a resident of Springfield since 1991.

Surviving are a daughter, Virginia A. Barber of Troy, Mich.; a son, William B. of Springfield; three grandchildren; three stepchildren, Vickie Buie of Gower, Mo., Brian Jones of St. Joseph, Clark Jones of Agency, Mo.; and two nieces.
