Mrs. McElwee Taken In Death

Mrs. John McElwee, 88, long-time resident of Jefferson County, died Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. at the Henry County Hospital in Mount Pleasant.

She had been a patient in the Mitchell Nursing home in Mount Pleasant for over 2 1/2 years.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Glasgow Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert McElderry in charge. Burial will be in the Glasgow Cemetery. The body is at the Raymond Funeral Home.

Anna Spray McElwee was born Dec. 12, 1879, in Lee County. She was the daughter of Theodore and Rebecca Holgate Spray. She was reared and educated in Jefferson County.

On Feb. 15, 1898, she was married to John McElwee. The marriage took place in Fairfield, and she spent most of her life in Jefferson County. She was a member of the Glasgow Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. James Helfenstine, Lockridge, and Mrs. Lulu Crowl, Denver; one son, Harold McElwee, Fort Madison; five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Ethel Byczek, Mount Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband passed away on Aug. 1, 1956.
