David W. Ross

BIRMINGHAM - David W. Ross, 94, of Birmingham, died Sunday, July 18, 1993, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

The service and burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Prairie Grove Cemetery northwest of West Burlington with the Rev. Sara Malone officiating. A Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Mount Pleasant Masonic Temple, with family visitation following until 8:30. Open visitation begins at noon Tuesday at Weir Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where a memorial has been established to the Masonic Scholarship Fund.

Ross was born Jan. 8, 1899, near Trenton, the son of Charles W. and Rose Walton Ross. He married Nan Allen on May 1, 1926, at Danville. She died Nov. 28, 1980. He worked at the West Burlington shops for the CB & Q Railroad from 1922 to 1926, farmed near Pleasant Lawn in Henry County until 1959, then moved to Birmingham and continued farming. He was a member of Birmingham United Methodist Church, a 50-year Mason in Mount Pleasant Masonic Lodge 8, and served on the Old Threshers Board of Directors from 1954 to 1959.

Surviving are a son, C. Richard of Birmingham; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. An infant son, Allen, two brothers, Leonard and Ralph, and a sister, Stace Ricks, preceded him in death.
