The Winfield Beacon, March 28, 1907
Charles Irving Wise was born near Wenona, Ills., November 6, 1861, and died at his home in this city March 25, 1907, aged 45 years, 4 months and 19 days. His parents moved to Winfield in 1874. Charlie, as he was always called remaining in Illinois for one year there after to attend school. Soon after his arrival here as a mere lad the building of the Narrow Guage Ry, was commenced and Charlie began working on it in the capacity of water boy and spike distributor. He did his work well and when the road was completed he became a fireman, and while yet very young for such a responsible position, he was was made engineer and for a long time with his younger brother George, as fireman, they passed up and down the line, guarding the lives of the traveling public with all the care and skill of time tried veterans.
On June 25, 1899, he was married to Miss Noda Gideon and to this union three children have been added, Ruth aged seven, Blanche, five and Loyd, two years.
One week ago last Friday he quit his work as engineer at the tile factory on account of a pain in the shoulder which rapidly developed into what was called rhuematic grippe, with a relentlessness that baffled medical skill and in so short a time he closed his eyes to earthly scenes and thus in life's prime he leaves family, parents, relatives and friends and on every hand to join the inumerable host in the great beyond.
The funeral was held from the Presbyterian church Tuesday at 2 p.m., Rev. Bean officiating. The pall bearers were all workmen from the tile factory, David Hess, Ross Boyd, Chas. Deyarman, B.F. Babcock, Albert and Roscoe Moore.
The interment was made in the Winfield cemetery.
The sorrowing wife and fatherless children who are the greatest sufferers in this irreparable loss, have the genuine sympathy in this trying hour, of all our people.
