Harry G. Townsend, 79, 501 S. Adams, Mt. Pleasant, died at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 26, 1992 at University of Iowa Hospital (Iowa City).

He was born Jan. 31, 1913, to Fred C. and Daisy (Garretson) Townsend. On June 28, 1942, he married Freda Simkin in Mt. Pleasant.

He graduated from Salem High School. He farmed south of Mt. Pleasant and worked for McAllister Seed Company for many years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Mt. Pleasant, where he served on many boards.

Survivors include: his wife, Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Mrs. Martin (Martha) John, Ft. Wayne, Ind., and Mrs. Ralph (Harriett Sue) Hansen, Lincoln, Neb.; one son, Ted Harry Townsend, Kansas City., Mo.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Mildred Kudobe, Mt Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Ralph.

Family visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m., Thursday at Beatty Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Friday at first Baptist church. The Rev. Glen Richard and Dr. Virgil Fry will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church.
