Clarence E. "Phil" Phillips, Jr.

Clarence E. "Phil" Phillips, Jr., 71, of Salem died at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2000, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Charles Tweed and the Rev. Tom Palmer officiating. Interment will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the family present from 6:30-8 p.m. Memorials have been established to American Heart Association, Congregational-Universal Church and the Salem/Grace Friends Church.

Mr. Phillips was born Oct. 5, 1928, in East Moline, Ill., the son of Clarence and Leodta Race Phillips, Sr. He married Frances Simmons Oct. 5, 1952, in Fairfield.

He was a member of the Congregational-Universalist Church and the Salem/Grace Friends Church.

Mr. Phillips owned and operated Shell Station in Olds from 1969-78. He retired from IWC maintenance department in 1991 and PII in 1999. He had been in the National Guard.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Jerry Phillips of Mount Pleasant; three daughters, Linda Phillips, Ruth Ann McMeins and Carlene Phillips, all of Mount Pleasant; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Richard Phillips of East Moline, Ill., Darrell Phillips of Fairfield and James Phillips of Lovilia.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
