James Wellington

James E. (Jim) Wellington, 55, of 201 W. Harlan, died at 3:20 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 1977, in the Veterans Hospital, Iowa City.

He was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Mt. Pleasant, the son of Frank and Elsie Carpenter Wellington.

He was owner of the Wellington Carpenter and Landscaping Business. Mr. Wellington served in World War Two, was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion, both of Mt. Pleasant, and a 25-year member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters.

Surviving are five brothers: Darrell, Ralph, Everett and Glenn, all of Mt. Pleasant, and Larry of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Mrs. Lucille Williams of Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Richard (Doris) Bittle of Salem, and Mrs. Ernest (Yeoland) Butler of Chicago, Ill.; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Kay, in 1966 and his parents.

Funeral services will be held from the Beatty-Jennings Funeral Home on North Broadway, Wednesday, April 20, at 2 p.m., the Rev. Glen Richard, pastor of the Pleasant View Mennonite Church, will officiate with interment in the Forest Lawn Cemetery. Full military services will be conducted at the grave.

A memorial fund in his memory will be to the Veterans Hospital for cancer research work. Friends may call as they desire after 7 p.m. Monday.
