Funeral Held For Ray Spry

The Memorial service for Ray Spry was held Saturday afternoon at the Cookes Funeral Home at 2:00. Dr George G. Hunt was the officiating minister. Mrs Stanley B. Niles and Mrs. Will McClaran sang "Lead Kindly Light" and "Under His Wings". Mrs. Emily Jackson presided at the organ. Pallbearers were Arthur White, George Koch, Jim Sodini, Ursa McCoy, Dr. Tom McCabe and Paul Schmidt, all members of the American Legion. The Legion served as Guard of Honor and performed customary and appropriate rites at the grave. Burial was in Forest Home cemetery.

Raymond Edward Spry, son of Edward and Belle McKilligan Spry, was born Jan 6, 1895, in Mt Pleasant and passed away June 21, 1945, in the Memorial hospital, Mt Pleasant, after a few years of declining health.

He attended the public schools of Mt. Pleasant and in his early twenties responded to the call of his country and served in the Engineer's corps during World War I. For several months he was in France

Following demobilization from the armed forces he engaged in the painter's trade, giving it up three years ago when his health failed.

On Oct. 11, 1928, he married Miss Agnes Smith. They began life together in the home on West Saunders street where he lived happily with Mrs. Spry until his departure from this life.

As a boy Mr. Spry was baptized into the Methodist faith. He was a member of the American Legion.

Surviving his decease are his wife, Mrs. Agnes Spry, his mother, Mrs. Belle Spry, both of Mt Pleasant; two sisters, Miss Mary Spry of Rock Island, Ill., and Ruth, Mrs. Carter Ritchey of Trinidad, Colo., one brother, Walter, of Mt Pleasant; and four nephews.
