William Sammons

William P. Sammons, 65, 602 S. Walnut, Mt. Pleasant, died Sunday evening Feb. 22, 1981 while driving his car on Highway 218 north on Ainsworth Junction.

He was born Dec. 13, 1915 at Rome, the son of Ralph and Etna Jane Messer Sammons. He was married to Jean Johnson on Oct. 28, 1950 at Mt. Pleasant.

Mr. Sammons was a retired employee of Mt. Pleasant Utilities.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Charles Wandling and Gary William Sammons, both of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Mrs. Tom (Susan) Hill of Coralville and Jane Sammons at home; one grandson; his father of Rome; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Erma) Cocherell of Mt. Pleasant.

His mother, an infant son and a brother preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles Comfort will officiate with interment in the Forest Lawn Cemetery

A memorial has been established for the Hope Haven Activity Center or the Henry County Diabetic Association.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Beatty Funeral Home. Friends may call as they desire after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
