Alice Messer

Alice Josephine Messer, 88, formerly of Trenton, died Sunday, Dec. 18, 1994, at 12:03 p.m. in Parkview Home of Wayland.

Born June 21, 1906, in Henry County, she was the daughter of Harlan and Laura Ross Roach. On May 27, 1926, at Washington, she was united in marriage to James Harlan Messer, who preceded her in death Dec. 23, 1988.

She was a long time member of the Trenton United Methodist Church, and the Women's Society of the church.

She was employed by IAAP for 3 1/2 years, and served as dietitian at Henry County Health Care Center in Mt. Pleasant for 16 years, retiring July 1, 1971.

She is survived by four sons, Marvin M. of Burlington, James L. and Donald L., both of Mt. Pleasant. and Delmar K. of Des Moines; four daughters, Mrs. Lyle (Lola) Swan of Mt. Pleasant, Elizabeth Smith of Kahoka, Mo., Mrs. Ronald (Wanda B.) Bair of Des Moines, and Mrs. Paul (Marilyn M.) Rheinschmidt of Burlington; one sister, Adaline Tschantz of Wayland; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, Patricia Ludwick, three sisters and three brothers.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Wednesday with the family present from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Beatty Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 22, at 10 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Lloyd Latta officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery.

Memorials in her memory have been established to the Trenton Methodist Church.
