Myrtle B. Carpenter

Myrtle Belle Carpenter, 78, Mt. Pleasant, died at 4:50 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, 2001, at Park Place Care Center.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. David Plooster officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at Weir Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant. A memorial has been established to the Pioneer Club of First Baptist Church or the Southeast Iowa Crossroads Hospice.

Mrs. Carpenter was born on Sept. 9, 1922, in rural Lowell, the daughter of Robert Ward and Edith Jennings Bonser. She married Homer Aaron Carpenter on June 9, 1945, in San Francisco, Calif., who died July 12, 1993, in Mt. Pleasant. She worked in several restaurants in Mt. Pleasant for a number of years. She then was employed at IAAP in Middletown. For 20 years she worked at the Mental Health Institute in Mt. Pleasant. She then became a nurse's aide at St. Joseph's Hospital in Joliet, Ill. She remained there for 12 years before moving to the Illinois State Hospital in Tinley Park, where she worked as a psychiatric aide until her retirement in 1986. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she taught the Pioneers Club of the church. For 42 years, she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include four brothers, Ward and his wife May Bonser of Vacaville, Calif., Robert and his wife Dee Dee Bonser of Fairfield, Calif., Jerry Bonser of Mt. Pleasant, and Joe and his wife Debbie Bonser of Lake Park, Ga.; five sisters, Mrs. Wanda Beaber of Mt. Pleasant, Helen and her husband LeRoy Kauffman of Dundee, Ill.; Patty and her husband Sam Wiles of Austin, Texas, Judy and her husband Bob Inglebright of Fairfield, Calif., and Edee and her husband Ted Bruggemeyer of Mt. Pleasant; and many nieces and nephews.
