Robert Campbell, 94 of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, May 09, 2009, at the Henry County Health Center.

Graveside services for Mr. Campbell will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at the Forest Home Cemetery with Mr. Bob Stull officiating. I.O.O.F. memorial rites will also be accorded at the graveside. A light lunch will follow at the home of his son, Roger Campbell. Friends may sign the register from noon until 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to the Rome Baptist Church.

Born August 2, 1914, in Marion Township, Iowa, Robert Murray, was the son of Ellis and Mina Murray Campbell. He attended Douglas Country School and was a graduate of Wayland High School. On September 8, 1937, Robert married Ruby M. Scarff in Kahoka, MO. She preceded him in death on February 1, 2009.

As a young person, Robert worked on the family farm. He then worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for six years and for REC for 29 years, retiring in 1977.

Robert liked to talk about farming and especially farming during the Depression. In 1947, he joined the International Order of Odd Fellows and was still a member. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and looking for mushrooms. Named Old Thresher of the Year in 2003, Robert was active at the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion. Robert helped to start the Midwest Central Railroad in 1960 by purchasing a $10 share and continued to be part of that organization until 2001.

Mr. Campbell is survived by a daughter, Marilee and her husband Merlin Donnolly of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a son, Roger Campbell of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a sister, Phyllis Hendricks of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and a sister-in-law, Helen Bouge of Bellevue, NE. He is also survived by six grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one nephew.

Along with his wife, Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Campbell; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Campbell; and a great-granddaughter, Sarah Donnolly.
