J. Wm. Messer, 94, Taken By Death

J. William Messer, 94, died at his home at 1:10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17.

Born August 9, 1867, in Trenton township, Henry County, he was the son of John T. and Zenith Black Messer.

He was united in marriage Dec. 23, 1891 to Emma Nelson, who preceded him in death in 1954.

He spent all of his life farming in the vicinity north of Rome. He belonged to the Modern Woodman of America.

Surviving are two sons, Harlan Messer, Trenton, and Harry Messer, rural, Mt. Pleasant, and two daughters, Mrs. Lester (Zell) Scarff, and Irene, both of Mt. Pleasant; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four daughters, two sons, three brothers and two sisters.

The body will be at the Weir-Cookes Funeral Home Monday night and will be taken to the Messer home Tuesday morning.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the White Oak church, with Rev. Walter Gray and Rev. Marvin Englebrecht officiating.

Burial will be in the White Oak cemetery.
