Larry Kent Kindig Sr., 64, of rural Mount Pleasant died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at his home.
Born May 31, 1944, in Washington, he was the son of Lloyd Taft and Ada Pearl Rich Kindig. On June 24, 1961, he married Maycle Ann Jennings in Keosauqua.
Mr. Kindig worked as a heavy equipment operator at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown for 37 years, retiring in September 2006. He was a farmer. He attended Mount Pleasant High School. He was a member of Rome Baptist Church. He was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 150, Adoniram Lodge 120 AF & AM of Wayland, and Bethlehem Chapter 38 Order of Eastern Star of Mount Pleasant where he was a past worthy patron and a past worthy associate patron. He belonged to the Palestine White Shrine of Burlington and the Henry County Cattlemen's Association. He enjoyed watching pro football and NASCAR races.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Deborah Perrott of Mount Pleasant; one son, Larry Kent Kindig Jr. of Mount Pleasant; two brothers, Stephen Kindig and Philip Kindig, both of Mount Pleasant: one sister, Pamela Kindig of Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren; and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant where a 5 p.m. Order of the Eastern Star service will be followed by the family receiving friends until 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Kindig will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. John Royer officiating. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery in Rome.
A memorial has been established for White Oak Cemetery.
