Leona Mae Ensminger, 103, of Fairfield, formerly of Rome, Iowa, died Monday, July 17, 2006, at Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield.
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rome Baptist Church in Rome, with the Rev. John Royer officiating. Burial will be in White Oak Cemetery in rural Rome.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday at Weir and Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Rome Baptist Church.
Mrs. Ensminger was born Jan. 22, 1903, in the White Oak area in rural Henry County, the daughter of Edward Lewis and Azuba Ann Messer Scarff. She married Howard Peter Ensminger June 7, 1924, in Mount Pleasant. He died Sept. 16, 1981.
Mrs. Ensminger was a long-time homemaker in the Rome area. She had worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. She worked at Henry County Health Center for eight years.
Mrs. Ensminger was a member of Rome Baptist Church. She served for many years as the church pianist and the Sunday school superintendent.
She enjoyed music, reading the scriptures and caring for the vegetable garden at her home.
Until the time of her death she was the oldest resident of Jefferson County.
Survivors include three grandchildren, Bob Ranard and Wife Cathy Kim of Princeton, N.J., Debbie Brobston of Stafford, Va., and Sister Linda Ranard of Red Bud, Ill.; two great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Kenneth and wife Helen Ensminger; one daughter, Lelia Ranard and husband Gayle; one brother, Lee Roy Scarff; and two sisters, Grace White and Nellie Ericson.
