George Ensminger

George Ensminger, son of Peter and Caroline Beaber Ensminger, was born March 1, 1877, near Trenton, Iowa and passed away at the Davis County Hospital June 15, 1954, at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 14 days.

He was united in marriage to Iona Scarff on December 20, 1899. To this union five children were born, two sons and three daughters, Ethel who is Mrs. Roy Turner of Troy, Velma who is Mrs. Dale Snodgrass of Cantril, Clyde of Troy, Everett of Fowler, Indiana, and Frances, who is Mrs. Lee Johnson of Bloomfield.

The first part of his married life he lived on farms near Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. In 1920 he and his family moved to a farm near Troy where he spent the remainder of his life. In 1949 they celebrated their golden Wedding Anniversary when over one hundred friends came to their home to share with them in this festive occasion.

Mr. Ensminger loved his home, his church and his community. He served as one of the directors on the Troy school board for six years. He was a member of the Troy Methodist church and served as superintendent of the Sunday School for a number of years. He was an active worker in the erection of the new church building and has been faithful as a member of the Board of Trustees ever since.

He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife and companion of more than fifty years, the five children, six grandchildren, who are Mrs. Carmen Turner Ritz of Bloomfield, Gene Turner and James Ensminger of Troy, Mrs, Norma Ensminger Brooks of West Liberty, Iowa, Helen Louise Snodgrass of Cantril and Feddie Johnson of Bloomfield; three great grandchildren, Steven Ritz, Melody and Lynn Brooks; one brother Criss of Troy and one sister, Mrs. Mary Kinney of Milton, several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.

The funeral was held at the Troy Methodist Church on Friday afternoon, June 18, 1954, a 1:00 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Arthur M. Eastman. Interment was made in the Forest Grove cemetery near Mt. Pleasant.

Note: George is buried in White Oak cemetery.
