John E. Bates Taken By Death

John E. Bates, 76, a resident of Henry county all his life and engaged in farming, died at the Henry County Memorial hospital Sunday night at 11 o'clock.

Mr. Bates had been seriously ill the last six weeks and had been failing the last two years.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. John Lane, Mrs. Arthur Scarff and Mrs. Leslie Scarff. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters, Robert Bates, Plains, Mont., Frank Bates, New Underwood, S. Dakota, Lydia Jay, Rapid City, S. Dakota, Mrs. Del Williams, Owanka, S. Dakota, Mrs. R. F. Hunter and Mrs. James Conner, Gage, Okla., and Mrs. Maggie Long, Mt. Pleasant.

The body is at the Crane Funeral home. Funeral arrangements are pending until word is received from some of the relatives at a distance.
