Fred Townsend Taken By Death

Well Known Salem Resident Was 68 Years Old

Salem --- Fred Townsend, 68, passed away at his home in Salem at 2 o'clock this morning. The body was moved to the Stevens funeral home where it will remain until time for the funeral service which will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Congregational church. The Rev. George Campbell pastor of the church will be in charge.

Mr. Townsend is survived by his wife and three children: Ralph of Moline, Ill., Mildred Kudobe of east of Salem and Harry, north of Salem.

Mr. Townsend was a member of the Congregation church and was active in church and community affairs, having been a member of the school boars and for more than 20 years the assessor of Salem township. Only a little over a week ago he tendered his resignation as assessor.
