The following obituary was read at the service:

Another happy family circle has been broken by the departure of a beloved wife and mother. Mrs. Orpha Scarff, daughter of Lloyd and Anna Ford born in the vicinity of Richwoods, July 3, 1868. This beloved one passed away Friday evening, at her home, 309 W. Monroe street. On December 23, 1891, she was united in marriage with J. T. Scarff who resided in the White Oak community. To this happy union were added eight children, six boys and two girls. Mrs. Scarff assumed the responsibilities of motherhood and throughout life, loved, lived and served her beloved children until about twelve years ago when she suffered a paralytic stroke. Since that time her strength had waned and her children and companion had cared for her. After her health began failing the family moved into Mt. Pleasant, where they have resided since.

She leaves to mourn her departure, five sons, Everett, Ray, Frank, Ralph, of Mt. Pleasant and Howard of Santa Monica, California; and daughter Elsie; her beloved companion whom together with Elsie and Ralph have almost constantly been at her side to aid in her struggles and wants. Three brothers, Asbury, James and Fernando Ford, all of Mt. Pleasant, besides three grandchildren and a host of friends.
