John Thomas Scarff, 88, died at Memorial hospital at 3:30 Monday morning after an extended illness.
The son of Samuel and May Jane (Vorhees) Scarff, he was born July 15, 1867, in Henry county. He was engaged in farming in the county until 1916 when he retired and moved to Mt. Pleasant. He engaged in the real estate business for several years and was councilman-at-large on the Mt. Pleasant city council for several years.
He is survived by six children, Everett, route 1, Wayland, Howard, Granada Hills, Calif., Mrs. Elsie Swinney, Burlington, Ray and Frank, Mt. Pleasant and Ralph of Davenport. There are five grandchildren and two half-sisters, Cora Scarff of Chicago and Mrs. Nina Chambers, California.
His wife and two children preceded him.
Services will be held at the Crane Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon a two o'clock. Friends may call there at any time they desire. Burial will be at the South cemetery at Salem.
