MT. PLEASANT FARMER KILLED ON RAILROAD
William Edgar Meets Death At Crossing Under Wheels of Burlington Passenger.

Special to The Gazette.

Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. February 10 -- William Edger, a farmer llving five miles east of here, was struck by the fast Burlington passenger train No. 1 and instantly killed late yesterday afternoon at Hanson's crossing, a mile east of Mt. Pleasant.

Mr. Edgar had brought a load of corn to the market and was returning home with the empty wagon. He failed to see the oncoming passenger on account of a freight which passed at this point, and driving across the rear of the freight found himself directly in front of No. 1, which bore down on him before he could get out of the way. The face and skull were mangled beyond recognition, and the right leg was broken. On horse escaped injury, but the other one had to be shot. The wagon was demolished. He is survived by a widow, two daughters, and three sons, and was 70 (sic: 76) years of age.
