MT. PLEASANT - J. Carlton Caldwell, 81, of 207 S. Locust, died Tuesday morning, July 3, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.
He was born Jan. 11, 1903, at Salem, to Dr. Edward and Bessie Paschal Caldwell. He married Francis A. Fye Oct. 24, 1943, at Nashua.
He worked with his brothers in the Caldwell Brothers Tire and Battery Store in Mt. Pleasant since 1929 and with Seig Co. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Henry County amateur radio club.
Surviving: His wife; one brother, Richard, Mt. Pleasant; two nephews, Alan and Rev. Gary Caldwell, both of Mt. Pleasant.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Friday, Weir Funeral Home, the Rev. Ronald Kramer; Trinity Cemetery near Mt. Union. Memorials have been established for the long term care unit at Henry County Health Center and to his church.
