MARJORIE GRABER

Marjorie Helen Graber, 82, Wayland, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Born November 25, 1923, Henry County, she was the daughter of Howard P. and Bessie Scarff Watts. On May 23, 1943, she married Willis Graber in Wayland. He died on February 16, 2004.

Mrs. Graber worked at Henry County Savings prior to her marriage. She worked with her husband on the farm for many years. She worked for various restaurants and the Parkview Home. She retired as manager from Congregate Meals in Wayland.

She was a 1941 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. She was a member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher and served as an usher. She was a member of the Mennonite Women, Primetimers and the New Life Group. She volunteered at several church camps after her retirement. She also hosted numerous young women in the International Visitors Exchange Program and provided foster care for many girls while living on the farm.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Graber of Wayland and Wendell Graber of Story City; one foster daughter, Vickie Paulson of Eldridge; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, one infant son, one daughter and one brother.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. There will be no family visitation.

There will be a family service for relatives of Mrs. Graber at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, with the Rev. Nathan Luitjens officiating.

Memorials have been established to Crooked Creek Camp, Sugar Creek Mennonite Library and the Mennonite women.

Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant is in charge of arrangements.
