Jack W. Blythe

Jack William Blythe, 63, of New London, died Sunday morning, April 19, at his home.

Born Oct. 18, 1923, at Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Louis and Ida Newberry Blythe. He married Cartha Smith Messer March 9, 1946, at Washington, Kan.

He had worked for J.I. Case Co., retiring in 1976 after 31 years of service. He later operated Jacks Lock Shop, New London. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Mount Pleasant, and Prairie Hunter Club, Pilot Grove, was a charter member of the Iowa Locksmith Association, and was a lifetime member of Local U.A.W., No. 807, Burlington.

Surviving are his wife, Cartha; three sons, Stanley Blythe, New London, Fred Messer and Ike Blythe, both of Burlington; four daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Woods, Mount Pleasant, Florence Holmes and Joyce Danielson, both of New London, and Barbara Cuggino, St. Cloud, Minn.; two brothers, John Blythe, Mount Pleasant, and James Blythe, Burlington; one sister, Mrs. Emma Foshier, Fairfield; and 27 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Elliott Chapel, New London, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Services for Mr. Blythe will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott Chapel with Elders Earl C. Humphrey and William Knox officiating. Burial will be in Reese Cemetery, New London.

A memorial has been established for the New London Rescue Squad.
