GENIUS WHITE

Rome, Ia., Feb. 28 -- Wednesday afternoon, February 25, Mr. Genius White died at the home of his son, Mr. P.G. white, of near Rome. Mr. White was born in Crawford county, Indiana, November 16, 1821. He was reared on a farm in Indiana and at the age of twenty-one moved with his parents to Van Buren county, Iowa, where he remained until the fall of 1852, at which time he crossed the plains with an ox team to California, spending eleven months there, and then returned to Henry county, Iowa, and purchased a farm near what is now called Pleasant Point, in Tippecanoe township, where he resided until 1871. He then bought a farm on which he has since resided, making his home with his son P. G. White until his death. In the year 1849, June 29, he was united in marriage to with Miss Mary Ann Grant, a native of Harrison county, Indiana. To this union was born seven children, of whom three survive: Mrs. J. H. Ginn of Haddam, Kan.; R. W. White of Monrovia, Calif., and P. G. White, the youngest of the family, with whom the venerable father made his home for many years until death called him. The deceased was a member of the M. E. church from early youth, and until his advanced age kept him confined to his home, he was an active worker for the promotion of the interest of the kingdom of Christ. He was a pioneer of Henry county, having resided her for seventy-two years. He was an earnest worker for any cause that tended to benefit the community. Honorable and truthful in business and a kind, indulgent husband and father he was happy during his last days to see the interest taken by the family of his son, with whom he lived, in their church attendance and relations. He was honored during his last days with that attention and kindness that supplied every want, and death to him was a passing into a quiet sleep for which he had been patiently awaiting.

The funeral services were held in the Baptist church here at 1 o'clock Friday.
