FUNERAL RITES FOR MRS. MELISSA RESSEL HELD ON THURSDAY

Funeral services for the late Mrs. Melissa Ada Ressel were held at her home on Poplar Street, Thursday afternoon at one-thirty o'clock. The house was crowded to it's capacity by those who met to show their sorrow for those who were mourning the departure of a good old mother.

Pastor Frank Weston of the First Baptist church, assisted by Rev. Mrs. Ethel Saums of God's Mission, conducted the service, and spoke from II Cor. 5:8. He referred to the long life of service lived by the deceased as she ministered to her family of sons and daughters and of her expressed hope of the heavenly home. Miss Mary Haines, Mrs. Andrew Wormhoudt, Mr. M. S. Cromer and Mr. Weston sang: "Asleep in Jesus", "Nearer My God to Thee" and "Going Down the Valley". Miss Mary Haines sang as a solo, "My Name in Mother's Prayer". The basket was smothered in beautiful flowers. Frank Johnson, Clarence Colburg, Ed Roederer, George Mickey, Roy Gawthrop and Arthur White were the pall bearers. Interment was in Hickory Grove.

Melissa Ada Turner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elza Turner, was born in Trenton, Iowa, August 19, 1848, and departed this life in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, November 13, 1928, at the advanced age of eighty years, three months and twenty-three days. In the year 1863 she was united in marriage to George Ressel who died July 5, 1902. Two children of their union are deceased, Mrs. Emma Vickstrom and Nellie Ressel who died at the age of two years. Those remaining to mourn the going of a good and devoted mother are Mrs. Carrie Turner and Mrs. Florence McCreary, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Hattie White, Rome. Iowa; George Ressel, Hanibal, Mo., Howard and Thomas Ressel, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Ella Miller and Mrs. Gertrude Gregory, Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Donnie Costello, Mt. Pleasant. Twenty-nine grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, besides many other relatives and friends, survive.

Mrs. Ressel had been a resident of the city for the last forty years of her life. She was very much devoted to her home duties and seldom was away from them. Her children and friends will always hold her memory in tender remembrance.
