Friday, 9 March 1945Memorial Service For Mrs. Mae Payne
The memorial service for Mrs. Mae Payne held at Cookes Funeral home Thursday afternoon was attended by a number of friends and relatives. Many of those who knew her as a teacher or later as an employee in the Mt. Pleasant News office were present for the service.
Dr. George G. Hunt spoke words of comfort and of high praise for the way Mrs. Payne lived and worked.
Danny Winter who served as News carrier for several years under Mrs. Payne's direction, played the organ numbers as request by Mrs. Payne.
Pallbearers were also as requested, O. D. Penniwell, E. J. Peterson, Everett Nicholson, W. A. Barnett, W. K. Rogers and A. M. Patterson of the News at the funeral home and Leslie Hallowell, Wilfred Hoaglin, Mark Cornick, Carl Shumaker, Jr., Iliff Shumaker and Robert Payne at Finley cemetery.
