Alberta "Rooney" CARRUTHERS 1008 E. Henry, Mount Pleasant, died at 10:29 a.m. on Sunday, March 20, 1994, at University Hospitals in Iowa City.

Born Sept. 11, 1915, at Keota, she was the daughter of Frank and Ethel GUMM LAWSON. On Sept. 13, 1941, at Kahoka, Mo., she married Russell H. CARRUTHERS.

Mrs. CARRUTHERS was co-owner of Speedy and Rooney's Cafe at Milton. She worked at Van's Lunch Box, Emerson Electric and Wielands Flowers of Mount Pleasant. She attended the Congregational Universalist Church and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Mount Pleasant.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, George CARRUTHERS and Ronald CARRUTHERS, both of Mount Pleasant; a daughter, Peggy MORROW of Burlington; a brother, Robert LAWSON of Fairfield; two sisters, Betty MITCHELL of Bonaparte and Dorothy MOORE of Fairfield; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Visitation will begin at noon Thursday, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Weir Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.

A memorial service for Mrs. CARRUTHERS will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Congregational Universalist Church in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Charles in the Forest Home Cemetery. The body has been cremated.

Memorials have established for Congregational Universalist Church and the Henry County Ambulance.
