Mary Ellen Calhoun

Mary Ellen CALHOUN, 87, of Mt. Pleasant died at 6:38 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Henry County Health Center.

The funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 21, at Beatty Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with the Rev. Henry Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery, west of Wayland. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with family present from 7 to 9 p.m. A memorial has been established to the Cottonwood Cemetery.

Mrs. CALHOUN was born July 3, 1911, at Coppock, the daughter of Frank and Martha TURNER MANNING. She married Victor CALHOUN Sr. on Jan. 28, 1927. He died May 23, 1992. She was a homemaker and attended the Coppock schools.

Survivors include two sons, Edman "Bill" of Lockridge and Victor Jr. of Mt. Pleasant; one daughter, Martha WHALEY of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Minnie MOWRY of Mt. Pleasant, Ferrel BAKER of New London and Edith MAHER of Ottumwa; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, seven sisters and five brothers.
