MRS. WM. SCHLIEP PASSES AWAY AFTER WEEKS OF SUFFERING.

For Half a Century She Has Lived in this City. Was an Especial Friend of the Needy. Leaves a Husband and Five Children.

Saturday evening about seven o'clock occurred the death of Mrs. W. H. Schliep at her home on North Adams street. Her death had been expected, as for days the family physician had given no hopes of recovery. The cause of Mrs. Schliep's death was heart trouble and dropsy.

Mrs. Schliep was well known in this city where she has lived for many years. She was of a quiet and retiring disposition, but very highly respected by all who knew her. She will be especially missed by the poor and needy of the city, who never called upon her in vain.

Mrs. Schliep was born at West Point, Iowa, April 2, 1843, her parents being Mr. and Mrs. Messman. With her parents she moved in 1855 to a farm seven miles north of Mt. Pleasant. There she lived until Oct. 24, 1860 [sic: Oct. 30] when she was married to Mr. William Schliep. Aside from five years in Illinois, where they lived after their marriage, they have resided in this city. Mrs. Schliep leaves behind her husband and five children. The children are Louis C. of Brooklyn, N.Y., William, Frank, Ida and Emma, all of this city. Three children died in infancy and Charles, growing to manhood, died a few years ago. Her parents and all of her own family aside from a brother, Mr. Jacob Messman, of Woodburn, Iowa, are dead.

The funeral services over the remains of the deceased will take place from the family residence Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock, Rev. W.P. Nicholas of the Presbyterian church officiating.
