M. V. Eicher Dies Last Friday Evening
Although Seriously Ill For Sometime, the Severity of his Sickness was Unknown to Most PeopleSurprise was expressed Saturday morning when the news spread that M. V. Eicher had died. For some time, Mr. Eicher had been afflicted with chronic nephritis but the intenseness of the disease apparently was known only by those closest to him. He was uptown on Wednesday, but his ailment became very severe Friday and he died Friday evening.
Mr. Eicher has resided in west Wayland for a long time. He owns three or four business buildings on main street and was a director in the Farmers State Bank. He was a board member of the Wayland Cemetery Association for years and always took great interest in the upkeep of this place. Mr. Eicher was precise in all his undertakings. His motto seems to be "a place for everything and everything in its place".
Funeral services were held at the Mennonite Church Monday at 2:00 and were conducted by Rev . Elmer Basinger assisted by Rev. J. J. Pritchard. A quartet composed to Aaron Leichty, H. E . Davies, Jesse Davies, and Dr. E.G. Rittler sang at the church. Mrs. Leola Magdefrau played the accompaniment.
L. M. Eicher and Jess Eicher and Glenn McCoy; Roy, Harry, and Paul McClintic were pallbearers . Interment was made in the Wayland Cemetery.
Martin V. Eicher, son of Daniel and Magdalena Eicher was born on a farm near Wayland, Iowa o n March 13, 1866. He passed away at his home in Wayland on Friday evening, May 23, 1930 at th e age of 64 years, 2 months,and 10 days. On March 19, 1891 he was united in marriage with Ann a M. McClintic and were thus privileged to share the joys and sorrows of married life for over 39 years. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife Mrs. Anna M. Eicher, his foster son William Eicher, and four brothers, John, Frank, Jacob, and Peter and two sisters Mary and Katheryn Eicher.
