Wendell Wells

Wendell Wells, 75, of Burlington, died at 415 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 1997, at Elm View Care Center, Burlington.

Born April 16, 1921, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Percy and Etta Leedham Wells. On May 9, 1942, he married Ruth Faigle in Burlington.

Mr. Wells was a graduate of Burlington High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a machinist for Burlington Northern Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of Homebuilders Sunday School Class, Keenagers, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9162, American Legion, Evening Lions Club, Railroad Veterans, National Railroad Veterans, Railroad Retirement Club, International Association of Machinists and past member of Mainliner Club.

Survivors include his wife of Burlington; three daughters, Linda Grupe, Sandra Booten and Sherry Wells, all of Burlington; four grandchildren; and three sisters, Susan C. Brown of Burlington, Martha Minnis and Gladys Springsteen, both of Morning Sun.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Visitation will be after noon today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 830 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Wells will be at 130 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Milton Geisler officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post 9162 of Burlington.

Memorials have been established for Grace United Methodist Church and Elm View Care Center.
