OBITUARY
John Oldt was born in Lycumings County, Penn., Nov, 1, 1838 and died at his late home in Salem, Ia., Sept. 23, 1907. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Aurand Dec. 8, 1861 in Snider Co., Penn. After their marriage they moved the same year to Oakland Mills, Iowa where they resided continuously except two years spent in Mo., having lived only one year in Salem.

He was the father of three sons and three daughters, five of whom survive him: Henry K. of Johnson, Neb., Reuben E., Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Charles B. of Chicago, Mrs. E. B. Scott of Happy, Texas and Mrs. G. W. Russell of Benton City, Mo.

He united with the Evangelical Lutheran church when 16 years of age and remained a member until death. Few men in Henry County were better known than John Oldt. For 36 years he had been employed in Oakland Mills doing business with men of different dispositions, giving satisfaction in his work as few men could do in one business for a period of so many years. For some time he had been in failing health and as months passed his desire to be released increased. On Sept. 23, at ten o'clock a.m. he passed quietly away, after having expressed an earnest prayer to depart from this life of toil and suffering.

Funeral service was held at the Oldt home in Salem conducted by Rev. J. Lee assisted by Rev. Kite of the M. E. church and the remains were interred at Oakland Mills. The casket was covered with beautiful flowers given by relatives and friends. The bereaved wife and children have many true friends who share with them the loss of the husband and father.
