Josephine, Mrs. Wilbur Allender, 70, Route 5, Mt. Pleasant, passed away unexpectedly at 5:07 P.M. Saturday, July 2, 1985, at University Hospital, Iowa City, where she had been admitted on Thursday.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 31, 1985 at 1:30 P.M. from the First United Methodist Church, Mt. Pleasant, with Rev. Ronald Kramer, officiant. Music was by Mrs. Richard Garrels, organist, and soloist James Green.
Casket bearers were Wesley Allender, Richard Wonderlich, Thomas Bates, Mike Brown, Dwaine Crawford, Richard Seberg. Honorary bearers were A.K. Elgar, Carl Seberg, Lloyd Wonderlich, John Wickham, Lloyd Brown, Rick Crone. Interment was in Forest Home Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. A memorial has been established for the Finley Chapel, rural Wayland or the Mt. Pleasant First United Methodist Church. Arrangements for the services were by Beatty Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant.
Josephine Brinning Allender was born October 9, 1914, at Washington, the daughter of Ralph and Ella Beitel Brinning. November 26, 1949 at Washinton she was married to Wilbur Wesley Allender who preceded her in death on December 20, 1973. She was of the Methodist faith and a retired nurse.
Survivors include sons Thomas Dean and Jerry Winston Allender both of Route 5, Mt. Pleasant, and a son and daughter from a previous marriage, Gary Scheffel of Dayton, Ohio and Joyce Ann Jacob of Los Angegles, California; five grandchildren; two sisters, Rosella Means, Mt. Pleasant and Wilma Crone, Washington. Along with her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Alvin Scheffel, and a brother, Donald Brining.
