Morton E. Dodds, 84, of Mount Pleasant died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mount Pleasant.

Born Aug. 9, 1924, in Burlington, he was the son of Ewing and Emma Elizabeth King Dodds. On June 6, 1946, he married Barbara Hill in Austin, Texas. She died Oct. 11, 1989. On Oct. 6, 1990, he later married Audrey Johnson Kramer in Mount Pleasant.

Mr. Dodds managed a shoe store while living in Austin. After returning to Iowa, he farmed near Yarmouth, and in 1959, began selling insurance and established Dodds Insurance Agency. He and his son Randy established Business Analysis in 1975, a regional insurance brokerage firm.

He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines in 1942 and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant. He served as a Mount Pleasant city councilman for 12 years and was a strong supporter of the Log Village in Midwest Old Threshers. He was a former Rotary Club member, and along with the Elefson family, he established the Chapel at the Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant. He enjoyed traveling worldwide and wintering in Arizona.

Survivors include his second wife; one son, Randy Dodds of Mount Pleasant; three stepchildren, John Kramer and Susan Kramer Jones, both of Ames, and Julie Kramer of Sun City West, Ariz.; one sister, Donna Lee Gabeline of Yarmouth; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
