Betty Carhoff
Betty Jane Carhoff, 84, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Danville, died at 7:53 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born May 2, 1923, in Burlington, she was the daughter of James and Hazel Boyle.

Mrs. Carhoff was a homemaker and worked at General Electric in Burlington for 10 years, before retiring in 1983.

She enjoyed reading, writing poetry and debating politics.

She was a member of SS. Mary & Patrick Catholic Church.

Survivors include four sons, Robert Carhoff of Sperry, William Carhoff of Gastonia, N.C., John Carhoff of Cedar Rapids and James Carhoff of Burlington; three daughters, Rebecca Smith of rural West Burlington, Naomi Lipper of New London and Suellen Schleisman of Mount Pleasant; 20 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Walz of Burlington; nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

No visitation is planned.

The graveside memorial service for Mrs. Carhoff will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Aspen Grove Cemetery in Burlington. Those planning to attend the graveside committal service should meet at the gate to the cemetery on Sunnyside Avenue at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday.
