John Richard Stafford, eldest child of Gideon and Adeline Stafford was born Jan. 28, 1850 and died Jan. 12, 1921, at his home in New London, Ia., age 70 years, 11 months, and 15 days. He was born two miles north of New London where he spent his early life. He was converted at the age of 18 years and united with the Asbury M. E. church, and eight years of his early life was spent in teaching school in this community. He was married to Miss Hannah Wright, Nov. 29, 1877, and this union two children were born, Mrs. C.W. Swan and G.W. Stafford, both of New London. For the last six years he has been an invalid and confined to his bed since last May; Patiently he bore his affliction, never complaining to the end. He has been a member of the Masonic lodge at New London, since young manhood. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and two children, three granddaughters, Miss Alma Swan, Miss Bessie Stafford, Miss Lela Stafford, and three sisters, Mrs Green Lee, and Mrs. Chas. Moore, of New London, Mrs. Wm. Ferrel, of Louse, Texas, Mr. T.E. Stafford, of Salem, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, and two infant brothers. His funeral was held at his home in New London in charge of A.F. & A.M. He was laid to rest in the Ramsey Cemetery, three miles east of New London.
