Larry Woodsmall
Larry Leroy Woodsmall, 62, of Mount Pleasant, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Born July 30, 1945, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Paul Leonard "Jake" and Alverta Hill Woodsmall. On June 7, 1969, he married Jane Agnes Lampe in Mount Pleasant.
Mr. Woodsmall worked at Hy-Vee Food Store in Mount Pleasant for 38 years. He worked as a bagger/stock boy while still in high school and was manager of frozen foods when he retired in 2001. He graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1963. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Fr. John Manning Council. He coached little league baseball, softball and rec-league football. He was a fan of the Chicago Bears, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially for flatheads in the Skunk River.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Scott Woodsmall of Ames, and Matt Woodsmall of Burlington; two daughters, Kathy Mullin of Mount Union and Amy Jones of Des Moines; his mother of Mount Pleasant; five grandchildren; five brothers, Paul Keith Woodsmall and Kevin Woodsmall, both of Mount Pleasant, Jerry Woodsmall of Lockridge, Ron Woodsmall of Rockford, Ill., and Tim Woodsmall of Mount Carmel, Ill.; and one sister, Anna Marie Baxter of Mount Pleasant.
He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers and his grandmother, who raised him.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday at Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant and from 4 to 9 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Church where a Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. The family will receive friends following the rosary.
The funeral mass for Mr. Woodsmall will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Nicholas J. Adam as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.
A memorial has been established.
