Donald C. SwansonDonald C. Swanson, 85, of New London, died Thursday, Dec. 20, at Donnellson Health Care Center of Donnellson.
A funeral service was held Saturday, Dec. 22, in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Rod Cooper officiating. Burial was in Aspen Grove Cemetery, with military rights by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard.
A memorial has been established for Donnellson Health Care Center.
He was born Jan. 7, 1922 in Storm Lake, the son of Conrad and Judith Lundquist Swanson. On March 12, 1949, he married Viola M. Pennington Lee in Mt. Pleasant.
Having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he worked as a cement finisher and was a member of Union Local 484 OPCM. He was of the Lutheran faith, was a member of VFW New London Post 7641 and enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, watching sports and his grandkids.
He is survived by his daughter, Jean Seberg of Mt. Pleasant; nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
His parents, wife, son and daughter-in-law Robert and Bonnie Swanson, stepdaughter and stepson-in-law Juanita and Ralph Kuepker, stepson Donald Lee, one brother and four sisters preceded him in death.
