William Hamilton

William "Bill" Hamilton, 91, of Winfield, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Born Nov. 3, 1909, at Mount Union, he was the son of Harry and Clara Robertson Hamilton. He married Wahneetah Feldman Jan. 27, 1940, in Burlington.

He was a graduate of Mount Union High School and the Fort Madison Business College. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Winfield.

In earlier years, he played violin for various bands, including the Cockayne Family Band, and later formed his own band, the Hamilton Redbirds. He continued until recent months to entertain various local groups with his music and talent.

Survivors include his wife of Winfield; two daughters, Marjorie Patterson of Glen Allen, Va., and Charlene Seggerman of Mount Pleasant; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dorothy Ralston of Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Friends may call after noon Thursday at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Hamilton will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Don Patterson and Mike Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for First Presbyterian Church of Winfield.
