Fred Moody, 66, Winfield Mayor, Dies Suddenly
Survivied by Wife, four Daughters and Three Sons
The citizens of Winfield were deeply shocked Wednesday when they learned that their mayor, Fred Moody had passed away suring the early hours of the morning, Mr. Moody who was 66 years old last November had been mayor of Winfield for a year being elected in the spring of 1938. He had been a resident of the Winfild vicinity most of his life.
Mrs Moddy said she was awakened about 12:30 Wednesday morning and discovered her husband had fallen from his bed. He told her he had not been hurt in the fall, but complained of being very ill. Then he slipped into unconsciousness and died about two and a half hours later. A stroke of apoplexy was said to be the cause of his death. He had suffered a light stroke several years ago members of his family said.
Funeal arrangements had not been completed yet Wednesday morning.
Mr. Moody was born in Yarmouth in Des Moines County and moved witrh his parents to a farm northeast of Winfield when he was two years old. About 28 years ago he moved to a farm near Cotter and upon retiring lived in Davenport for four years before coming here five years ago.
Surviving him are his wife three sons, Ray and Charles both of Columbus Junction and Richard who lives in Tennessee; four daughters, Mrs. Laura Baughman at home; Mrs. Jessie Rees of Crawfordsville; Mrs. Alice Meyer of Davenport; and Helen who lives in Indianna; also a brother Henry and a sister Mrs. William Feldman both of Winfield.
