Glenn H. Upton, 72, of Mount Pleasant, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born June 12, 1935, in Mount Pleasant, he was the son of Donald C. and June Hayward Upton. On Dec. 12, 1959, he married Adeline Jones in St. Ignatius, Mont. She died in 2004.

Mr. Upton was a retired Burlington Northern Railroad engineer. He had worked as a substitute teacher in the Danville School system. He served in the Marines and was a member of the Veterans Club of Mount Pleasant, the National Smokejumpers Association of Montana and the NRA. He attended Richwoods Country School and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School. He attended the University of Montana and graduated from Iowa Wesleyan.

Survivors include three sons, Daniel Upton of Arlee, Mont., Derric Upton of Missoula, Mont., and Darren Upton of Ponca City, Okla.; one daughter, Denise Ritz of Mount Pleasant; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Upton of Mount Pleasant and Harold Upton of Mountain Grove, Mo.; and three sisters, Sara Weschler, Anna Turner and Linda Stith, all of Mount Pleasant.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister in infancy.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Upton will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeffrey Crawford officiating. Burial with full military honors by the Henry County Honor Guard will be at Forest Home Cemetery, Mount Pleasant.

A memorial has been established.
